Baroque

Handel La Lucrezia Sarah Gabriel soprano & Abbandonata
Extracts from a live performance of Handel’s extraordinary cantata describing the aftermath of the rape of Lucrezia. Narrated by Lucrezia herself, she sings of her hatred of the tyrannical Tarquinius, her desperation for the gods to listen to her pleas for revenge, and, as she decides that suicide is the only choice left to her, her final moments as she eases a knife into her chest.

Recitative: ‘A voi, padre, consorte, a Roma, presento il mio morir’
